The Apollo program, also known as Project Apollo, was the United States human spaceflight program led by NASA, which successfully landed the first humans on the Moon in 1969. Apollo followed Project Mercury that put the first Americans in space.
· Apollo 1:
Intended as the first crewed mission, but tragically lost in a launchpad fire
· Apollo 7:
The first crewed flight of the Apollo program, focused on testing the command and service modules.
· Apollo 8:
The first crewed mission to orbit the Moon, marking a major step towards landing on the lunar surface.
· Apollo 9:
The first crewed flight to test the Lunar Module in Earth orbit.
· Apollo 10:
A dress rehearsal for the first lunar landing, testing all aspects of the mission except for the actual landing.
· Apollo 11:
The first mission to land humans on the Moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the lunar surface.
· Apollo 12, Apollo 14, Apollo 15, Apollo 16, and Apollo 17:
These missions continued lunar exploration, with astronauts conducting scientific experiments, collecting samples, and driving the Lunar Roving Vehicle on the Moon.
· Apollo 13:
While an accident during the mission prevented a lunar landing, the crew successfully returned to Earth, demonstrating the ability to manage a crisis in space and highlighting the importance of the service module's systems.
· Apollo-Soyuz:
The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) was a joint mission between the United States and the Soviet Union, marking the first time the two nations' spacecraft docked in orbit.
